Board of directors and staff

JoAnn L. Keller, OTD, OTR/L, CHT

Board Member

JoAnn is the owner of Hands for Living, a private hand therapy practice providing outstanding upper extremity rehabilitation in Lynnwood, Washington, just north of Seattle.

JoAnn is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, and achieved certification in hand therapy in 2001.  A native of Minnesota, she worked in Colorado, Kentucky, and Alaska prior to settling in Washington state.  She was the Director of Therapy for a large hand surgery and therapy group in the north Puget Sound area for many years before opening her private practice.

JoAnn has consistently been recognized as a leader in hand therapy.  She was a member of the Hand Transplant Team for the second U.S. hand transplant patient in 2002, and was recognized by the Kentucky Occupational Therapy Board for her role in a successful bid for state Occupational Therapy licensure changes. She has received state recognition three times as an Outstanding Occupational Therapist, and was awarded the national Lindy Boggs Award in 2015 by AOTA for career-long efforts to advocate for occupational therapy and OT clients.

JoAnn was drawn immediately to hand therapy when she worked in an occupational therapy program while she was a student. She had the opportunity to make an orthosis under supervision for a patient, who reported improvement in his symptoms at his very next visit! This experience sparked her interest in the process of caring for patients as a hand therapist – evaluating clinical problems, designing a creative treatment program or an orthosis, and providing education in how to care for an injury. She enjoys spending time with her patients to help them to return to their regular activities.

JoAnn also enjoys working with other therapists. She has taught continuing education courses and enjoys giving back to the hand therapy profession through her roles with HTCC.  She volunteered with HTCC on a passing score study in 2002, and has served on the Recertification committee since 2003. She became committee chair in 2007 and joined the Board of Directors the same year.

Outside of hand therapy, JoAnn enjoys travel, hiking and skiing, and competes in dressage and jumping competitions with her horse.
